WHAT IS WILL-GO?
A brief introduction
Will-Go! stands for ‘Weekend Immersion in Language and Leisure’. It is, as it name states, an event that takes place during a weekend (saturday and sunday). During that time, Thinking Mind organizes a language immersion experience for a school that wishes to improve the level of english and the interest of its students towards the language.
The programme is made up of two main parts: the english lessons, given by native teachers with experience and a different approach in all 4 or more basic competences. The second part, consists of different types of activities, be them sports, cultural, artistic, or a combination of all of these. On the activities, the students get to experience the language through games and challenges to make it more fun – it is, after all, another way of learning-
In between their lessons and activities, the students also get some breaks to take their meals and relax.
These are a couple of days packed with new experiences, fun moments and lots of new things to learn!
WHAT IS AN ACTIVITY LEADER?
What do they do?
The Activity Leaders are members of the team, who plan and execute the activities of the programme, and they are also supportive the whole event in general, making sure the students are where they are supposed to be, and making sure that they are involved.
During the activities, they are the ones who literally lead them. Giving the rules and instructions, and explaining what is to be done and then doing it along with the students, keeping them engaged and motivated along the way.
WHAT IS AN ACTIVITY LEADER LIKE?
Some key traits to have
Be helpful, commited, active and dinamic. – This basically means that you need to find something to do, there’s always something to get done, places to be, and people to assist.
Have good communication skills – Be able to explain what you want to do clearly and respectfully.
Be proactive – Think of new ways to improve what is being done and find solutions to problems that may come along the way.
Be patient – Working with students isn’t easy, especially when you’re not speaking in the language that they’re used to. Find ways to talk to them that help them learn.
Be practical – Don’t get stuck after a setback, find a solution that works and go with it.
SPEAK ENGLISH (or French) – This is one of the most important factors. The language is crucial, speak it at ALL TIMES!
WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES ARE THERE?
Some examples of things to do
A large part of the activities will be outdoors, if the weather allows it. And depending on the school’s facilities, we can play sports like fooball, baketball, volleyball, tenis, etc. You will have to know the rules
in english and be able to explain them.
Other outdoor games include: Tag, Hide n’ seek, capture the flag, random races / obstacle races, HAKA Routines, etc.
Cultural activities include creative representations of a country or culture, plays, song-writing exercises, spelling bee, talent show, etc.
More artistic activities include arts & crafts, and poster creation.
We’re open to new ideas! Give us your imput and we might just do it. The main goal is to have activities that are fun, interesting, safe, engaging and that are able to contribute to language learning and expression.
